Public wants to curb billionaire influence, but billionaires want to curb For the People Act

Leaked recording of Koch discussion of For the People Act (H.R.1/S.1), plutocrats acknowledge that conservative voters want to curb big money in politics. They will focus on killing the bill in Congress rather than trying to convince the public.

In the book, Albena explains how precarity (not inequality) is the central driver of our current political, economic, and social woes. Mark and Albena explore the roots of economic precarity, the reasons it’s more dangerous and destabilizing than inequality alone, and why addressing it will require mixing tried-and-true economic policies with a radical rethinking of how our economy is structured. Billionaire gives $10 million to back Ohio Senate candidate

Tech billionaire Peter Thiel and famous author J. D. Vance share some conservative/libertarian ideas, and Thiel wants Vance to be elected U.S. Senator from Ohio. He’s contributed $10 billion to a SuperPAC toward that end. HR 1, now pending in the U.S. Senate would help stop coordinated spending between candidate campaigns and PACs.

As legislature passes laws restricting access to voting, new coalition forms to oppose based on money-in-politics research

Research showing that corporate money has flowed to Republicans who recently passed restrictive voting laws in Georgia has spurred the creation of a new coalition to reverse the new laws passed by the Georgia legislature and to support HR 1 (For the People Act) and HR 4 (John Lewis Voting Rights Act) in Congress.

The Georgia legislators pushing voter suppression bills are backed by millions in corporate cash

https://popular.info/p/georgia?r=7u3mv&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=email

Following surprise losses in November and January, Republican legislators in Georgia are aggressively pushing legislation to restrict voting before the next election. The purpose of these bills is both to validate Trump's false claims of electoral fraud and to make it more difficult for Democratic-leaning constituencies, particularly communities of color, to cast their ballots in the next election. Republican elected officials sponsoring these bills are backed by millions in corporate donations.
